Collaborative Interagent Communication: Architectural Requirements
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have been investigating collaborative expert-consultation dialogues in which two participants (the executing agent and the consultant) work together to construct a plan for achieving the executing agent’s domain goal. Our analysis of naturally occurring dialogue and our search for an architecture for response generation in collaborative situations have led us to identify a number of features that must be captured in a collaborative response planner. This position paper discusses these issues and outlines our proposed architecture. We assume that the current status of the interaction is represented by a tripartite dialogue model [Lambert and Carberry, 1991] that captures intentions on three levels: domain, problem-solving, and discourse. The domain level contains the domain plan being constructed for later execution. The problem-solving level contains the agents’ intentions about how to construct the domain plan, and the discourse level contains the communicative plan initiated to further their joint problem-solving intentions. Our plan-based response generation architecture has been implemented in a prototype system and is being further developed to handle extended negotiation.

An Architecture-Based Approach Substantiating Interagent Connections in Platforms
Subject of this paper is the functional description and refinement of a connector service to manage dynamic interactions in multi-service agent platforms. At first, the concept of architectural frames will be introduced as a common development framework for application systems and interpreted for the class of agent systems. For the program-technical realization and execution of agent applicatio...
متن کاملToward Quality-Centered Design of Groupware Architectures
Challenges in designing effective groupware include technical issues associated with concurrent and distributed work and social issues associated with supporting group activities. To address some of these problems, we have developed a quality-centered architectural design framework that links requirements analysis to architectural design decisions for groupware systems. The framework supports r...
متن کاملAn Architectural Pattern for Computer- Mediated Communication in Groupware Systems
In the creation of groupware systems, a good design of communication mechanisms, required by the group in order to carry out its work, is essential, since there are many other design aspects that depend on it. These aspects have a major impact on the success or failure of the collaborative application. This paper presents a computer-mediated communication taxonomy for groupware systems, as well...
متن کاملMATE: An Experiment While You Sleep Test Bed
Collaboration among design systems is rapidly becoming a focus of research in automated design (Klein 1992) (Lander and Lesser 1992) (Maher et. al. 1993 ). The construction collaborative design systems involves issues relating to the integration of heterogeneous databases and tools, multi-user interfaces, and design documentation, as well as issues of interagent communication and coordination. ...
متن کاملRandomized distributed access to mutually exclusive resources
Many systems consist of a set of agents which must acquire exclusive access to resources from a shared pool. Coordination of agents in such systems is often implemented in the form of a centralized mechanism. The intervention of this type of mechanism, however, typically introduces significant computational overhead and reduces the amount of concurrent activity. Alternatives to centralized mech...
